The town Pomorie (population: 14 560) is situated on a peninsula projecting 5 km into the sea. The peninsula is 18 km north-east of Bourgas and it’s international airport, (408 km east of Sofia). Before entering the town, one passes through a long and narrow causeway between the sea and the firth of Pomorie. The area is known for the salt-mining centre as well as the fruits and vegetables grown here. Wine and tin productions are also traditional industries. Today however, the main occupation of its inhabitants is tourism. The first mud-cure establishment was built here in 1902 after the curing properties of the mud had been proved (however you prove such thing is a mystery to us but it could be a selling point for the area)….? The mud is apparently excellent for bone and muscular disorders, radiculitis, rheumatism, sciatica, umbago, discal hernia, etc so why not have a wallow? The village of Sarafovo is 6 km south of Pomorie. Bourgas Airport, near the village, is open to international flights and is expanding rapidly to include low-fare airlines from the UK. The village is situated on the seashore and this in itself gives opportunities for recreation. Lodgings are offered along the pleasant beaches.
