The town of Sandanski is situated in South-Western Bulgaria, immediately to the west of the Pirin Mountains, along the banks of the Sandanski Bistritsa River. The area of Sandanski has the best climate in the whole of Bulgaria and if one adds up the hot mineral springs (33°-83°C) it becomes evident why the town has turned into a resort of international significance. The townsfolk of Sandanski as well as Bulgarians as a whole are proud of the unique Town Park called “ton – Sveti Vrach”. It occupies 344 decares and contains more than 100 tree species and more than 150 flower species. The stone slopes resemble the Alpine outlook of the white marble massif of Pirin rising to the east. Suspension bridges hang over the foamy Sandanska Bistritsa River. 18 km northeast, within Pirin, is the Popina Luka Resort (1230 m above sea level) where the eleven-meter high Popina Luka Waterfall is located along the Bashlitsa River.
