Blagoevgrad is one of the largest towns in south-western Bulgaria, 101 km from the capital Sofia. The town is a university centre. Blagoevgrad is also famous with its beautiful and functional town center, all laid out in marble. In close proximity to the town there are 30 mineral springs with temperature up to 55°C. This makes the city a spa-resort. At 3.5 km to the north-east is located the Bachinovo Park, where annually, in June, a town festival is held. At 30km distance is situated the oldest reserve park for coniferous species of trees in Bulgaria – Parangalitsa. There you can see the highest tree in Bulgaria – a 60-meters spruce.
